🏦 Council confirms County Hall sale
Hertfordshire County Council has reconfirmed its decision to market the County Hall site for alternative uses.
The council will now market the whole of County Hall for alternative uses, including possible residential or commercial development, subject to planning permission. This change means the front section, previously earmarked for council meetings, is also included - saving £9.7m in separation costs, reducing running expenses, and boosting the site’s potential sale value.
🤝 Grants awarded to local organisations
Three local councillors have allocated £2,500 to local organisations as part of the Locality Budget Scheme.
Councillor Rachel Carter (Hertford St. Andrew’s) has given £500 to Home Start Hertfordshire to fund the delivery of a 1:1 home-visiting service.
And together, with Ware councillor Kirsty Taylor Moran (Ware North), Cllr Carter has also given a further £2,000 to Celtic Harmony to help provide bursaries for pre-history trips.

💼 Back-to-School Reset for Busy Mums
For mums, September is the real New Year. Forget January - this is when the calendars get reset, the uniforms get lined up, and if we’re lucky, a little sanity returns. 😅
If you’re balancing work deadlines, school runs, and the occasional teenage eye roll, here are some small but mighty ways to make the transition smoother:
1️⃣ Own Your Mornings: Wake up 20 minutes before the kids - just for you. Enjoy your coffee hot, do a quick stretch, or simply stare out the window in peace. Lay out tomorrow’s outfit (even if it’s comfy joggers) and gift your future self one less decision.
2️⃣ Drop One Mental Load: School schedules, forms, and packed lunches can feel endless. Choose one thing to delegate or automate - maybe your partner takes over lunch duty, or all events go into a shared Google Calendar. Simplify where you can.
3️⃣ Create a ‘Fake Commute’: Even if you work from home, start your day with a short walk, a coffee shop visit, or a few quiet minutes in the car with a podcast. It’s the perfect mental reset between home life and work mode.
4️⃣ Set Boundaries and Keep Them: September’s a great time to reintroduce work-life rules: log off in time for pickup, protect snack o’clock from Zoom calls, and block out the days you’re the family taxi.
5️⃣ Small Declutters = Big Wins: No need to overhaul the whole house. Clear one drawer, one school bag, or one email folder. The tiny victories add up.
6️⃣ Budget for You: School extras add up, but so should little treats for yourself - a face mask, a cleaner once a month, or a fun gadget.
7️⃣ Make Your Car a Sanctuary: If you’re spending hours on drop-offs and pick-ups, make it pleasant. Snacks in the boot, coffee in the cupholder, and your favourite playlist can turn errands into a mini escape.
Back-to-school season isn’t just about the kids - it’s your chance to reset too. Keep it simple, focus on what matters most, and always carry an extra granola bar… because someone will forget theirs!
