🏰 £3.5m Lottery boost for Hertford Castle grounds
Hertford’s Castle Grounds are set for a major upgrade after securing £3.5m in National Lottery funding.

The project will transform the space with a new play area, better access and restored riverbanks, alongside conservation of historic features like the motte and castle walls. Expect improved paths, bridges, seating and signage, plus enhanced planting to support local wildlife.

📚 Great news for local families: From September, Hertford St Andrew CofE Primary School will be opening a new school-based nursery, thanks to fresh funding.

A welcome boost for early years provision in the area; and a step towards giving more children the best possible start.

🚧 Council seeks extra cash for potholes
Hertfordshire County Council is asking the government for urgent extra funding to tackle the county’s pothole problem.

From April, £30m is already being invested in day-to-day road maintenance, alongside a further £107m for longer-term road improvements to prevent potholes forming in the first place. In the meantime, repair work is ramping up - with 5,700 potholes fixed in February alone (up 44% on last year) and over 12,000 repaired so far in 2026.
