πŸŽ† Fireworks, Floyd & a Bakery Secret: Your Hertford Week

Four trains an hour are back, a new artisan bakery is on the way, Lucy Porter and Pink Floyd hit BEAM, and a Β£1.25m Fordwich Rise home with a garden to swoon over.

Good Morning, locals!

Here's a number to wake you up: 59. That's how many days are left of 2026, including today.

Not in a panicky, β€œwhere-did-the-year-go”, kind of way. Rather in a "there's still loads of time to finish strong" one. Two months is enough time to tick off the thing you've been putting off, try the class you keep scrolling past, and squeeze in a few good nights out before the Christmas chaos lands.

And the Hertford Scoop’s making it easy. This week we've got comedy, jazz, a Dolly Parton sing-along, festive pottery and wreath making, a brilliant run of shows at BEAM and the Corn Exchange, plus some genuinely good news for Hertford North commuters.

The weather's playing nicely too: mostly dry all week, so fireworks night is on.

πŸ‘‡ Here’s what we’ve got for you this week:

  • What’s On

  • Town Talk: Four trains an hour are back + a new bakery is coming

  • Kiddies Scoop: Dear Zoo, LEGO and farm-fit kids

  • Eye Catching Deals: Pub Supper Club + Β£1.99 coffee

  • Property Of The Week: The garden of dreams on Fordwich Rise

  • Weather: Dry, cloudy and crisp for bonfire weekend

  • Mind, Health & Fitness: Your 59-day finish-strong plan

  • Extra Sprinkles: 102 years of Hertford North

🏑 Property Of The Week

Fordwich Rise, Hertford, SG14

If you've ever walked past a Hertford garden and thought "who lives there?", this could be the answer. This four-bedroom detached home sits on a generous plot on popular Fordwich Rise, and the star of the show is out the back: a mature, private garden nurtured over many years, with a sweeping lawn, established borders, a planted pergola and a terrace with a water feature.

Inside, around 2,043 sq ft (including the garage) gives you a bay-fronted living room with an exposed brick fireplace, an 18ft dining room opening onto the terrace, a kitchen overlooking the garden, a utility room, a study and a ground-floor shower room. Upstairs, the 26ft principal bedroom has its own roof terrace with far-reaching views.

It's ready for a modern refresh, with scope to extend (subject to consents). Add parking for several cars, a 32ft tandem garage and an easy walk to Hertford North, just in time for those four trains an hour. Freehold. Marketed by Morgan Alexander.

🌦 Hertford Weather: 3 - 9 Nov 2026

A grey but mostly dry week, with highs of 9-12Β°C and very little chance of rain. Today is the mildest day at 12Β°C, with a 24% chance of a shower. Thursday is the driest day of the lot (just 5% chance of rain), and the wind drops to a gentle breeze from Friday.

Fireworks Saturday stays dry and mostly cloudy with a light northerly breeze, but it's chilly, dropping to 5Β°C, so hats, gloves and a flask of something hot for the Ware display. Remembrance Sunday brings the brightest skies of the week with partly cloudy sunshine, though it starts at a crisp 4Β°C, so wrap up for the parade.

Best days: Thursday for staying dry, and Sunday for a bit of sunshine.

🎯 The Final 59: Your Finish-Strong Plan

No resolutions, no guilt, no "new year, new me". Just three small promises to make the last two months of 2026 count.

1. Finish one thing. The half-read book. The spare room. The online course you paid for in March. Pick one, put a date on it, and enjoy the smug glow on 31 December.

2. Start one thing. Why wait for January when you could have a head start? Try a sound bath, an art class or a round padel. Doing something new, even once, gives the year a fresh memory to end on.

3. Enjoy one thing, on purpose. Book the comedy night. Go to the market without a list. Say yes to the coffee. A good year isn't just about what you achieve, it's also about what you actually remember.

πŸ’ͺ The simple weekly check-in: Every Sunday evening, ask yourself three questions. What went well? What's one thing I'll do this week? Who could I do it with? Two minutes, a notepad, done.

🧁 Extra Sprinkles

102 Years of Hertford North

With four trains an hour about to return, it feels like the right week to tip our hats to Hertford North.

The station opened on 2 June 1924, replacing an older station known until 1923 as Hertford Cowbridge, which sat on the branch line from Hatfield. The new station put Hertford on the Hertford Loop, the line that leaves the East Coast Main Line near Alexandra Palace and rejoins it just south of Stevenage, giving trains a handy diversion route and giving Hertford a direct line into London.

It sits 19.6 miles from King's Cross, about a ten-minute walk from the town centre on North Road. And it's busier than ever: it had more than 1 million passenger entries and exits in 2024-25.

So next time you're waiting on platform 1, spare a thought for the Cowbridge commuters who came before you.

πŸ—“ Save the date: Mudlarks Christmas Craft Fair πŸ“… Sun 15 Nov | 11:00-16:00 | πŸ“ Mudlarks CafΓ©, Hertford

🎁 Stocking filler sorted: The Official Hertford 2027 Calendar is out now, featuring 12 of the best local photos from this year's competition. £12.99 from the Hertford Town and Tourist Information Centre. More here

That's your lot for this week, Hertford. 59 days, plenty of fun to be had. Let's make them count.

As always, if you've got an event, a local story, or something cool happening around SG12/SG14, drop us a line. This newsletter runs on community tips and local love. πŸ’Œ
