Community Grants Awarded In Hertford

Two local county councillors have backed community projects with funding from their locality budgets.

Cllr Ben Crystall (Hertford All Saints) has awarded £1,000 to Kingsmead Residents’ Association to support a new DriveSafe Community Scheme on Ware Road, near Wheatcroft Primary School. Early data shows over a quarter of drivers are exceeding the speed limit, and the initiative aims to improve road safety and gather evidence for potential highway improvements.

Cllr Rachel Carter (Hertford St Andrew’s) has granted £375 to the Hertfordshire Festival of Music, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year with the theme ‘Made in Herts!’. The county’s annual classical music festival runs from 30 May - 13 June, with events taking place in and around Hertford.

Work Underway On New Homes In Marshgate Drive

Construction has started on 29 new three- and four-bedroom homes in Marshgate Drive, being built by Berkeley Homes on former commercial land.

The site forms part of a wider regeneration project delivering over 450 homes on land previously occupied by the old gas works south of the River Lee. Plans were initially refused by East Herts Council over concerns around density and traffic but were later approved on appeal by the Planning Inspectorate.

The development will include 58 parking spaces, a communal courtyard area, and a large commercial unit at the corner of Marshgate Drive and Mead Lane.

🏡 PROPERTY OF THE WEEK

A bit of fun this week, as we feature a Hertford home that’s turning heads. Here’s a little window into what makes living in Hertford so special.

Swallow Island, North Road, Hertford

Your own little island… in the heart of Hertford.

This substantial detached family home sits on a private gated plot (over 0.25 acres), surrounded by mature trees and backing onto a peaceful stretch of the River Beane. It feels wonderfully secluded - yet you’re just moments from town.

Inside offers generous family living with three reception rooms, a spacious kitchen/breakfast room, five bedrooms and a principal suite with en-suite. Outside, there are landscaped gardens, a double garage and parking for 8+ cars.

And the standout feature? A private brick bridge over the River Beane, giving gated shortcut access towards Millmead School, Sainsbury’s and Hartham Park.

🌦 HERTFORD WEATHER: 24 Feb - 2 Mar 2026

Hertford’s serving up a mixed week:

Tuesday brightens up after a cloudy start, but Wednesday is the winner - mostly sunny and a warm 17°C. That’s your go-outside day.

Showers creep in from Thursday, with Friday and Sunday looking the wettest. Saturday offers a brighter break.

Best days: Wednesday (by far), with Tuesday arvie and Saturday as solid backups. 🌞

✨ MIND, HEALTH + FITNESS

💪🏼 Here’s your reminder: it’s the smallest habits that create the biggest shifts.

Stop overcomplicating it. Pick 3-5 simple non-negotiables (think steps, protein, strength sessions, sleep), and be relentlessly consistent. Do that for 30 days and you’ll feel stronger, leaner and clearer than chasing any complicated, expensive routine that was never designed for your real life.

Simple. Repeatable. Powerful. 🤍

🧁 EXTRA SPRINKLES

Can’t be bothered to cook but still fancy something dangerously good? 🔥 The viral M&S Chicken Kiev Ciabatta is calling your name…
